Review:
The Boulevard Diner, established in it's original and
current location in 1936 is the epitomy of olden days
diners. Owned and operated since 1962 the George family
takes pride in the upkeep and beautiful condition of this
great American breed. It's polished, dark woodwork and
shining tile walls and floors are breathtaking. The granite
countertop is in exquizite condition. Original booths and
stools at the counter are usually full at almost any given
time of the day or night. They open at 7am Monday and stay
open 24 hours until Sunday at 8pm. The food is beyond
typical diner fare. The menu, which hangs overhead and is
viewable from any seat, consists of everything from eggs
and pancakes to lasagna and rib eye steak. With the grill
located at the counter, watching the brothers Anthony and
Johnny whip through bucket after bucket of eggs, is truly a
treat. They add charm and wit to the atmosphere as they
cook at almost lightning speed. Their Auntie Kitty can also
be seen there at almost any given time. She is quite the
character with a story to tell each time you visit. She is
also the secret behind their famous Grapenut Custard and
Lasagna. Each time it is served, she emerges from the
kitchen announcing "Mamma Lasagna...don't get any anya!"
It's always amusing to hear it. James George, brother to
Anthony and Johnny, took over the business in January of
1999. Their father, Ringo, who died in 1993, had purchased
it in 1963. The family is always present and the driving
force behind quality food and friendly service. In crisp
white shirts and red aprons the staff always make you feel
like you are part of the family. They greet you as you come
in as if you were a long time friend they hadn't seen in a
while with a "Hey! How are ya!" to make you feel right at
home. The Pasta Fagioli is to die for. And, I am told, a
long time favorite of Governor Paul Cellucci, who frequents
the diner on his many trips to Worcester. This place has
the old time feel that all diners should have. Friendly and
comfortable and excellent food and service. The old
neighborhood regulars can also be seen gathered at the end
of the counter drinking coffee and offering a story of
"back in the days...." . So stop by, pull up a stool and
get comfortable while the George family and friends take on
a trip back in time to a place, as they say, where
everybody knows your name. They never forget a face, so be
sure to smile! And remember, as Auntie Kitty likes to sing,
"There's no place finer than the Boulevard Diner". If you
do go, make sure you tell them Brenda sent you and said
"Hey!"
