The former Time Out Diner in northern Cape May county has
had many owners and many names. Can Franc and Marie Buto,
the third husband/wife team to call this beautiful diner
their own in the last 10 years, make a go of it?
The 1945 Silk City isn't exactly located on the busiest
highway in New Jersey. Most people who visit Cape May
county pass by it 6 miles to the East on the Garden State
Parkway. There's no sign on the Parkway which says
"Instead of eating and Burger King in one of our
oh-so-convienent service plazas, you'd be better off
leaving the parkway at Exit 25, heading East about 5 miles
on Route 631 to Route 50 North. Proceed about 1 mile and
you'll come to the the lovely, historic and charming Old
Towne Diner. You'll find the short detour well worth it."
The excellent food, great service, friendly atmosphere is
enough to attract it's share of locals, but the town of
Tuckahoe isn't exactly the most populous community in South
Jersey. Let's hope more vacationers (on their way to Ocean
City, Wildwood, and Cape May City) hear about this place
and are willing to take a less direct route to their
destination.
