We now move on to Fall River, Massachusetts, to a strip mall on President
Avenue, a mundane setting for an extraordinary place, Al Mac's Diner,
where a spectacular neon sign proclaims "Justly Famous Since 1910." The
stainless steel structure is only one of many diners which have graced this
location since the early 1900's, when Al McDermott opened his first counter-
service restaurant. It was built in 1954 by the DeRaffle Manufacturing
Company of New Rochelle, NY.
